App name: Prayer Times & Qibla (Android package com.codeorbitlabs.prayer_times)

In short
- Prayer Times & Qibla works without an internet connection. It does not ask Android for permission to use the internet, so it cannot send information anywhere by itself.
- It has no account, no ads, and no analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- What you choose, tick or count in the app is kept on your phone only.
- We do not receive any of it, and we cannot see it.
- The only files that leave your phone are ones you choose to share: a timetable, a diagnostics file, or your own records (a CSV file).
What the app keeps on your phone
The app keeps these things in its own private storage on your phone:
- Your place: a name, latitude, longitude and time zone. You choose it by searching a list of cities built into the app, or by pressing “Use my location”.
- Your choices: the calculation method and Asr school, any corrections you set to individual prayer times, the Hijri date shift and month start dates you set, your “Silence during prayer” settings, whether the Witr counter is shown, the look (light, dark or the phone’s), the language, the 12-hour or 24-hour clock, and the animation choice.
- Your records: the prayers you tick on the prayer tracker (one tick per prayer per day), the numbers you set on the qaza counter, and on the tasbih counter the count, the target you chose and whether it vibrates on each tap. The tasbih counter holds numbers only, and the app never changes your qaza numbers itself.
- Schedules the app makes for you: about 30 days of prayer times for the alarms, the widgets and the silence windows.
- A short log of what the alarms and the silence feature did (for example that an alarm fired, and how late). It is shown on the Reliability screen and is not sent anywhere.
- Two notice records: where the stored prayer times end, and when the app last showed you the “Prayer times need refreshing” notice.
- Files you share: when you share a timetable, the diagnostics file or your records, the app writes the file to a private folder on the phone (at most 10 files, none older than a day) before handing it to the app you choose.
The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other personal details.
How your data is protected
Your data stays on your phone in the app’s private storage and is not sent anywhere. Phone backup is turned off for the app. Android protects phone storage when you set a screen lock. The app does not add its own encryption on top of this. You can delete your records in the app at any time.
Your location
- The app asks Android for approximate location only, and only when you press “Use my location”. It never asks for precise location or for location in the background.
- It reads your approximate position once, uses it to find your place and time zone, and keeps the place on your phone.
- The app has no way to send the position anywhere.
- You can instead search for your city and never allow location.
Permissions the app uses and why
The app asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them. You can take them back at any time in Android’s settings.
| Permission |
Why |
| Notifications |
To show the adhan alert when exact alarms are not allowed, the notification while the tone plays, and the notice that the stored prayer times are running out |
| Alarms & reminders |
To set each prayer-time alarm for the exact minute (you allow it on Android’s own screen) |
| Approximate location |
To find your place when you press “Use my location” |
| Do Not Disturb access |
Only if you switch on “Silence during prayer”: the app turns Do Not Disturb on around the prayers you chose and puts it back afterwards. |
| Vibration |
For the tasbih counter, the Qibla alignment and ticks. Android grants it at installation; you choose the strength (or off) in Settings |
| Run after restart; keep the phone awake; foreground service |
To put alarms, widgets and silence windows back after a restart and to play the tone for a few seconds |
Sharing
The app shares nothing by itself. Three kinds of file can leave the phone, only when you tap a button and choose where to send them in Android’s share sheet:
- A monthly timetable (image, PDF or CSV): prayer times, the place name as you saved it (not its coordinates), the calculation method, any corrections you made, and a line asking the reader to confirm times with the local mosque.
- The diagnostics file (Reliability screen), meant for a person testing the app: the app version, your phone’s make, model and Android version, whether alarms, notifications and battery optimisation are allowed, how many prayer times are stored, the time of the next one, a summary of how late past alarms went off, and the list of alarm events with their times. It has no place name, no coordinates and none of your settings. Because the times in it depend on where you are, it shows roughly which region you are in.
- Your records (a file named
records-YYYY-MM-DD.csv): the prayers you ticked (date and prayer), your qaza numbers, and your tasbih counters (count, target, the name you gave a counter exactly as you typed it, and totals counted on each day). It has no place name, no coordinates, no times of day and none of your settings.
What the receiving app does with a file is governed by that app, not by us.
Backups and changing phones
Phone backup is turned off for the app, so Android does not copy its data to your Google account. A new phone therefore starts with nothing: you choose your place and method again.
Deleting your data
- “Delete my records” (on the prayer tracker, the qaza counter and the tasbih counter, and in Settings) asks first, then removes every prayer tick, every qaza number, and the tasbih counters, names, history and targets from the phone, and rewrites the app’s database file so the old entries are no longer in it. Your place and other choices are kept, and so are the alarm and silence event logs.
- To remove everything the app keeps, clear the app’s storage in Android’s settings or uninstall the app.
- There is no account, so there is nothing to delete on a server.
Third parties
- The list of cities comes from GeoNames (geonames.org, licence CC BY). It is built into the app; the app does not contact GeoNames.
- The app has no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or sign-in service from any third party.
- If you installed the app from Google Play, Google’s own terms and privacy policy apply to that, including any crash or performance data Google collects from phones where the user allowed it. We do not receive it through the app.
Children
The app has no account and does not ask for or collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights and data retention
We do not receive, store or process your data on any server, so we hold nothing about you. Everything the app keeps is on your phone, and you control it: you can delete your records in the app, clear the app’s storage in Android’s settings, or uninstall the app. For any privacy question, email 108101ras@gmail.com.
